About us

Vipu is a venture builder focused on university spin-outs. We bring research to action, by matching academic competence with industry needs. Research findings often constitute process innovation, or “deep-tech”, which requires in-depth industry knowledge and established partnerships.

Compared to conventional business-to-consumer type of businesses, in deep-tech the proof of market it established through building research-to-application networks with businesses. Building intellectual property rights and meeting clinical industry requirements often lead to longer development costs, but open a market for significant societal and business opportunities.

Our goal is to explore mutual interests between businesses and universities. And to to take academic excellence to action.

Services

Team building

Competence and chemistry. We concoct the founding academic team with the business competence to form a venture. First we define clear roles, aligned with the competencies of the founding team. Then we screen and recruit members that fit and supplement the core competencies of the team. Reinforcing strengths and outsourcing weaknesses, the whole becomes more than the sum of its parts.

Market research

How is the issue addressed currently ? What are its alternatives ? How is the industry developing and what are its trends ? How can we approach the market to align and position the venture for the most significant impact possible.

Financial services

Academic ventures are very heavy on upfront costs of development. We focus on building a funding funnel, with clear objectives and partnerships with public and private venture capital – so that the team can focus on developing their business, and don’t have to scramble for the next round of funding.

Testing & proof of concept

Theory is still far from practice. Our priority is to discover and prove the applicable value of the venture. This can be numbers or users, customers or sales. The main value of the invention is in its market adaptation.

Partnerships

Finding a network of partners is easy. Building a complementary and long-term relationship is hard. We establish and help to maintain a value chain or partners to create the core business. This vertical often includes producers, customers and distributors.

Software development

Even analogue innovation often requires a digital component to measure, manage or communicate. We establish the plan and pathway for its development.

Prototyping

Products and services need to be tried and tested before being released for commercial use. Our network of makers and creators allows us to produce fast and light version of the innovation, to gather the latest feedback from its eventual users or peers.

Brand identity

No matter how remarkable the invention is, it needs to be articulated and communicated clearly. We help our teams tell their story in simple language, build their online presence and create an identity which the users can relate with. This includes website, sales and presentation material.

IPR

Intellectual property rights is an important hygiene factor when working with technology. We investigate for possible overlapping or infringing rights, and create an IP portfolio to cover the needs of the business. This portfolio signifies ownership, protects the technology from rivals and acts as a resource for partnerships or licencing agreements.

Learning-LED (LLED) is a system of sensors and datamodeling, for optimizing climate controls in indoor horticulture. By taking readings off chlorophyll, the system adjusts growth factors, such as: lighting cycles, CO2 levels, humidity and temperature – for optimizing growth and yields, and minimizing electricity and resource usage.

When uploading a video on Youtube, for example. The video is split and ”transcoded” in to 14 different quality versions, to support most systems and devices – to assure the best quality and bandwidth. This work is often done via cloud, and the computation capacity required is tremendous. WEVI connects to cloud service proviers and transcodes the material where and when it’s most cheap and efficient.
